Terms of service

Mac application

Effective August 10, 2026

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of the Midcent Mac application ("Midcent," "the app," or "the software") provided by Midcent ("we," "us," or "our"). By downloading, installing, or using Midcent, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the software.

Midcent is distributed through the Apple App Store. Your license to use it is Apple's standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement (the "Standard EULA"). These Terms supplement it and describe how Midcent handles your writing, how support and refunds work, and what we do and do not collect. Where these Terms conflict with the Standard EULA, the Standard EULA governs.

1. License

Your license to use Midcent is granted under the Standard EULA. In summary, it gives you a non-transferable license to use Midcent on any Apple-branded products you own or control, subject to the Usage Rules in Apple's Media Services Terms and Conditions. The Standard EULA is the authoritative statement of the license; the summary here is for convenience only.

2. Your content

Midcent is a local-first application. All documents, chapters, versions, snapshots, and associated content you create in Midcent ("your content") are stored entirely on your computer in standard file formats. We do not host, access, transmit, or store your content on any server.

You retain full ownership of your content. We claim no rights to anything you write in Midcent. You are solely responsible for backing up and safeguarding your files.

3. Local data storage

Midcent stores your writing projects as files on your local file system. This means your data never leaves your machine through Midcent. Because your content is stored locally, you are responsible for maintaining backups, managing disk space, and ensuring the security of your device.

4. Purchases and payments

Midcent is sold as a one-time purchase through the Apple App Store. Apple is the seller of record for that transaction. Your purchase is governed by Apple's Media Services Terms and Conditions and by the Apple ID payment method on file with your account.

We never see, handle, or store your payment card information. Apple does not share your payment details with us.

If Midcent becomes available through another distribution channel in the future, purchases made there will be governed by the terms of that channel's operator, disclosed at the point of sale.

5. Refunds

Refunds for App Store purchases are handled by Apple, not by us. We cannot issue, approve, or reverse a refund for a purchase made through the App Store.

To request one, use Apple's refund process at reportaproblem.apple.com or contact Apple Support. Apple's own refund policies and timelines apply.

If something is wrong with the app itself, email us at the address below — we would rather fix it than have you ask Apple for your money back.

6. Support

Support for Midcent is ours to provide, not Apple's. Email us at hello@midcent.app and a person will read it.

7. Restrictions

The Standard EULA sets out what you may and may not do with Midcent. For clarity, and consistent with it, you agree not to:

  • Reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble the software
  • Redistribute, sublicense, or resell Midcent without our written permission
  • Remove or alter any proprietary notices or labels
  • Use Midcent in any way that violates applicable law

8. Updates

We may release updates to Midcent from time to time. These updates may include bug fixes, new features, or changes to existing functionality. Updates are delivered through the App Store, and these Terms apply to all updated versions of the software.

9. Intellectual property

Midcent, including its design, code, visual assets, and branding, is our intellectual property and is protected by copyright and other applicable laws. These Terms do not transfer any intellectual property rights to you beyond the license described above.

10. Disclaimer of warranties

Midcent is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, to the fullest extent permitted by law. We do not warrant that the software will be error-free, uninterrupted, or free of harmful components. You use Midcent at your own risk.

11. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of Midcent, including but not limited to loss of data, loss of profits, or damage to your device. Our total liability for any claim shall not exceed the amount you paid for Midcent.

12. Termination

You may stop using Midcent at any time by uninstalling the software. Your rights under the Standard EULA terminate automatically if you fail to comply with its terms. Upon termination, you should uninstall Midcent. Your locally stored content remains yours regardless of termination.

13. Changes to these terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. Changes will be posted on our website and take effect upon posting. Continued use of Midcent after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms. Changes to the Standard EULA are made by Apple, not by us.

14. Governing law

The Standard EULA states the law governing your license to use Midcent. These supplemental Terms are governed by the laws of the United States, and any disputes shall be resolved in the courts of competent jurisdiction.
