Privacy policy
Effective August 10, 2026
This policy applies to the Midcent Mac application for macOS and the midcent.app website.
The short version
Midcent is a local-first writing application. Your writing is stored on your computer. We do not collect, access, or transmit the content you create. There is no account system, no cloud sync, and no telemetry in the application.
What the application does not do
The Midcent Mac application does not transmit your writing or document content to us or to any third party. It does not require an internet connection to function. It does not require an account.
Your operating system or other software on your device may independently collect diagnostic or crash data. That collection is governed by those providers' own privacy policies, not this one.
What we may collect
Through the website
When you visit midcent.app, our hosting provider may automatically log standard server request data such as IP addresses, browser type, and pages visited. We may also use privacy-respecting analytics to understand aggregate traffic patterns. We do not use advertising cookies or cross-site tracking.
There is no mailing list and no signup form on the site. We do not collect email addresses through midcent.app. If you email us directly, we keep that message only as long as it takes to answer you.
Through purchases
Midcent is sold through the Apple App Store. Apple handles the entire transaction, and your purchase is governed by Apple's privacy policy, not this one.
We never see your payment information. Apple does not give us your name, email address, or billing details. What we receive from Apple is aggregate sales and download reporting — unit counts by territory and date — which does not identify individual customers.
Because there is no account system and no license key to issue, we hold no record connecting you to a purchase.
Your data, your responsibility
Because Midcent stores everything locally:
- Backups are yours to manage. Midcent's project files are standard folders you can back up however you prefer.
- Device security is yours to manage. Anyone with access to your computer can access your files. Use your operating system's built-in security features to protect your work.
- We cannot recover lost files. If you delete a project or your device fails, we have no copy to restore.
Cookies
The website uses only cookies necessary for basic functionality. We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.
Third-party services
We work with a small number of third-party services to operate the website, and Midcent is distributed and sold through the Apple App Store. Each has its own privacy policy. We choose partners that respect user privacy.
Children's privacy
Midcent does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. The Mac application collects no personal information from any user. If a parent or guardian believes their child has provided personal information through our website, contact us and we will promptly delete it.
Data retention
Website analytics data is retained in aggregate form and is not linked to individual users. Sales reporting from Apple is aggregate and retained as required for accounting purposes; it contains no customer identities.
Your rights
You may request access to, deletion of, or a portable copy of any personal data we hold about you. To make a request, contact us at support@passfilter.com.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated effective date.
